In recent years, the Countertops has become a very trendy design solution, requested by almost all clients and proposed by many architects .However, the use of a lowering in light materials was also frequent in the past: the most common case was that in which it was created to hide the intrados of the wooden floors and thus configure a flat surface.
As the name implies, the Countertops is a second ceiling that hides the first, but combines this with additional functions. In particular, a gap is created between the new surface and the existing one, which can be used for various purposes .Usually, the word Countertops indicates both the flat closing structure and the cavity itself. There are also load-bearing false ceilings, which can be used as a sort of closet, to store objects of infrequent use, but I will not deal with them here.
Why a Countertops is being built
The Countertopscan be made both for aesthetic reasons and for functional needs, for example for:
• lower rooms that are too high and thus re-proportion their dimensions
• hide the passage of ducts of various types of systems
• create a particular and scenographic lighting
• hide an old or damaged ceiling
• improve the thermo – acoustic comfort of a home.
Of course, a state of the art Countertopscan responds to more than one of these functions at the same time. For example, a structure necessary to hide pipes can be shaped in such a way as to configure an elegant scenographic effect in the environment. The Countertopscan accommodate different types of systems. The most frequent case is that of the lighting system, in which the lighting bodies can be integrated into the structure itself. Therefore, in these projects, spotlights or LED strips replace traditional lighting fixtures.
